November to March — peak season
Daytime 20–28°C, evenings 15–20°C. Most comfortable desert conditions. Book 1–2 weeks ahead for Luxury and Glamorous in high season.
April and October — shoulder season
Pleasant transitional months. Fewer tourists, same experiences, often slightly better value.
June to September — summer
Hot days (40–45°C) but evening safaris start at 3pm and the desert cools fast after sunset. By dinner it is 30–32°C. Reduced pricing at most shared camps. Read the summer guide.
Best time of day
Evening for the full experience: sunset, dinner, shows. Morning for sunrise light, cooler temperatures and quieter dunes.
FAQ
When does the desert get coldest?
January, with overnight desert temperatures sometimes dropping to 10–12°C. A warm jacket is genuinely useful.
Is a desert safari good in December?
One of the best months. Mild temperatures, festive atmosphere. Book at least a week ahead.
What happens if it rains?
Rare but possible in winter. Light rain does not stop safaris. Operator cancellation (sandstorm, heavy rain) means full refund or free new date.
